
Opening the Chess School in the 'Peacock' Orthodox Children's Home

The Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation continues to implement the charitable program of An Anatoly Karpov Chess School to Russia’s Schools and Children's Homes.
On March 13th, 2011, such a chess school was opened in the Peacock Orthodox children's home (Moscow). It became the 53rd Anatoly Karpov chess school opened together with our Foundation.
The opening ceremony was visited by:
• Fr. Dimitry Smirnov, the Chairman of Department for Interaction with Armed Forces and Law-Enforcement Bodies, the founder of the Peacock Orthodox children's home;
• A. E. Karpov, the Chairman of the Board of Guardians at the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Ambassador, the repeated chess world champion;
• A. Yu. Bykov, Chairman of Board of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation.
Father Dimitry Smirnov in his speech of greeting blessed the school activity and thanked the sponsors who helped the Peacock Orthodox children's home. Anatoly Karpov wished the children successes in the wonderful field of chess playing.
